The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

Everything is rosy when visiting friends
A few weeks ago we drove south and visited/stayed with
friends in Los Altos, Atherton,Bolinas, Sausalito and Mill Valley.
There is nothing better than seeing dear friends and family.
The best medicine for our hearts and souls.

Kathe's Quick Trip to Lake Oswego, Oregon

"No Officer- I'm not on my cell phone
this is my camera.  I am just taking a few photos while driving"
Just leaving Weed- we had our first snow last night.

Siskiyou Pass Summit- a little over 4000 feet.
There's only a trace of snow. Whew.

Etta with her martini and me with my glass of Pinot!
We had a lovely time catching up and having dinner.

Gracie and Dexter waiting for breakfast.
You can see my fully loaded Subaru
through the window. I had come up to
pick up all the tile we needed to finish
our bathroom.  Plus a tile saw.
After this photo was taken I headed
back down I-5 for the 350 mile trip back home.

Now it's time to make dirt....
Russell built the raised beds out of recycled old decking
and I've got the task of layering straw,alfalfa hay,dirt
and manure with blood meal and bone meal.
Finishing it all off with a topping of
good compost and planting cereal rye seeds for a winter cover.
Hopefully by planting next year I'll have better dirt than this year.
Whew.

Is it time to rake leaves?
We have countless Black Oak trees on our 10 acres-
needless to say we only rake leaves up and away from the house.

Fall has definitely arrived!
It rained a teensy bit last night
but not enough to make anything less dry
and we don't see snow yet on Mt Shasta...

We vacationed-now back to work!

Since returning from our week long time off in
the Bay Area Russell has transformed our old vegetable
garden into a nicely designed raised-bed garden.
He recycled a lot of the old deck lumber
and this will be so much easier to maintain.
Now I need to find a source for good growing soil!

Russell also finished the deck off what will be our
master bedroom. Now the exterior building is complete!
In the spring we can begin to landscape with indigenous
perennials and shrubs.

We are going off line for a few days-
hence three photos now
and more in a few days.
~~~~~~~
While in Etna the other day
I spotted this fence with unusally colored knotholes.
Since I couldn't look through them to see what was
behind the fence- I held my camera over the fence....
I took a photo in one direction...
and then the other direction.....
All I saw was bits and pieces of old cars...
Backyard wealth.
