Kernels of summer joy
The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

Whoops!
This spring I planted two different packets of what
I thought were both green beans. Hmmm- a mistake
was made as half the green beans turned out to be soup beans!
Another culinary discovery to be made.....I think
I will make Minestrone with these beans.

Another DIY task
Putting up sheetrock would not be as easy for Russell
and Edward without this engineering gizmo.
Thank goodness for clever design engineers.

Do you remember playing Musical Chairs?
The chair stands alone, the chair stands alone,
Hi ho the derry-o the chair stands alone....
Does anyone know what this is?
I think it's either a type of succulent or Euphorbia....
if you know or have a guess let me know!

Johnny-come-lately
I had given up on my Butternut Squash
ever doing anything but producing blooms.
But! Hooray! Here are two teeny tiny squash
and I have one on the other plant also.
So, I will cut all the other flowering stems off so that
all the nutrients will go directly to the babies.
Let's see if they mature before it freezes.

Forest Fires
Smoke from several fires 2 hours to the south
has filled up the sky. The Eddy's mountain range
is barely visible in the background and we can really
smell the smoke.

Fellow blogger Stephen Hayes of The Chubby Chatterbox
blogged about the color blue which somehow ended
up with me making this image.
Stephens' blog is a delight to read and is one of my favorites.

American Weirdness- Destruction Derbys
Where old cars go to be destroyed -
all in the spirit of ridiculessness. Only in America.
This does not mean that we don't laugh at all the crashes.

A Study in Red
Choke cherries, home grown Cayenne chilies and tomatoes.
Choke Cherry Tree
Evidently these cherries are so tart
that only the bears will eat them. A friend did make jelly
with them using pectin and apple juice, but it required so
much sugar she never made it again.

I like coyotes. I like hearing them yipping at night.
They keep the rodent population down
and are an important part of the balance of nature.
Obviously some folks don't think of that.
I had heard of this practice but couldn't believe my eyes.
