We're all wrapping up our gardens

Summer is over, tired tomato plants are pulled,

hoses rolled up, the water is turned off

Echinacea flowers

Last sunny day for awhile. I went up to our veggie garden
to pull out the last of the tomato plants.
There are lots of flowers still blooming,
but it's definitely the end of harvesting.
Time to put the gardens to bed.

Yet Another Creepy Scarecrow!

The Lake Oswego Garden club sets up all
these scarecrows around the community garden space. I think
there were at least 100 this year. Every year I get one
plunked down in my garden and I always move it away.
Not that I don't appreciate their efforts;
I just find them creepy.

Summer is over!

My veggie garden is pretty pathetic looking,

but still chugging out food. These winter squash

will be yummy soups, gnocci and who knows what else!

Luscher Farm Barn with Sunflower
Meanwhile, back in our neighborhood-our neighbors behind us have added to their backyard barnyard.
Beside the lovely Aracana chickens they now have two Pygmy goats.
They hope to eventually rent out these two
Billy goats (neutered) for brush removal!
In our little city one can have barnyard animals in the backyard as long as they don't weigh more than 45 pounds and that no one complains- and who would? I'd rather hear a little goat going "Baa baa baa" than a noisy dog barking all day long!!! It's rather amusing to me!

Their names are Billy and Noah. Very cute little goats.

My Garden is Growing!

After being gone for 9 days I went

to my little garden yesterday at

Luscher Farm to see what I could pick .

Wow! I had a yellow zucchini, lots of spinach,

kale and basil. Even some more asparagus!

So I made a tasty soup and will make a

dessert today from the rhubarb I pulled out!

Yum-it's good to be home!

Killdeer Nest

Whoops-she left the nest. I am not that close,

but I'm backing up now and apologizing profusely.

Killdeer lay 4 eggs before they will begin to sit on

the eggs so that the babies all hatch on the same day.

I will try to get a shot of them after they hatch-so darn cute!

Killdeer make their nests in the darndest places.

In the middle of a path or here in

the middle of a veggie patch.

When the babies hatch they come out running

looking exactly like their parents. Only smaller!

No Sun=No Shadow...But we have Chukars!
Besides our community garden spaces at Luscher Farm,
we also have the historic Chicken Coop maintained
by Riccardo Spaccarelli of Riccardo's Ristorante.
In addition to the chickens there are pigeons, pheasants
and chukars. Highly entertaining for all ages of gardeners!

Garlic Shooting Up to the Sky

Besides rhubarb and asparagus beaming up,

there is lots of garlic coming up where I missed

picking it last spring- yay! And it's sunny at last!
