The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

Photo #45 2012

And in my left hand is...........
a small yellow rock from our friends croft Loch na Mhoid
outside Inverness Scotland
the piece of granite is from a cemetery in Guanajuato Mexico
and the long reddish brown stone is from Flodden Field* in Great Britain
where one of Russell's ancestors died in a battle during 1513.
I am always picking up interesting stones or other found objects and carrying
them in my pockets like they were talismans or totems.
To see what's in my left hand go here:

*The Battle of Flodden or Flodden Field or occasionally Battle of Branxton was fought in the county of Northumberland in northern England on 9 September 1513, between an invading Scots army under King James IV and an English army commanded by the Earl of Surrey. It ended in victory for the English army, and was the largest battle (in terms of numbers) fought between the two nations.[5] James IV was himself killed in the battle, becoming the last British monarch to suffer such a fate.

Yet another baby quilt-
Different from most baby quilts-
I chose to use a variety of Scottish tartans
from different clans as this baby is of
Scottish descent. The outside border is
the Stewart Hunting tartan and on the
back is the Royal Stewart Tartan.
All very grand for little Abigail Ramey Jones.
She lives only a few miles from where her
Great-great-great-great-great Grandfather was
kidnapped by the Delaware Indians and was not returned
to his family for more than 10 years.
Luckily he was returned as otherwise there
would not be all these splendid Joneses.

Below is a photo of the quilt backing.
The white patch is a pocket that I always
sew onto the back of the quilts.
It has a personal message from me on it and
the pocket is nice for little hands to hide treasures.

Taken at World's End Pub in Edinburgh
Just when I think I have posted all the pics from Scotland-
I come up with yet another. These packets are condiments.
From the left we have vinegar, ketchup, mayonaise, tarter sauce and mustard.
I think?
At home our condiments are just covered with the makers
name and not quite as appetizing or appealing
as these cute little packets.

Sculpture made by Andy Goldsworthy from one entire Pilot whale skeleton.

On our last full day in Edinburgh it was so rainy we spent a few hours just looking at the exhibits in the Early People Gallery in the National Museum of Scotland.
It would take weeks to see everything in the entire museum.

Flodden Battlefield Monument
Russell with battlefield behind him. You can see the
monument far off in the distance on the left.

Russell's brother Rick insisted on our going to Flodden Field
just over the border of Scotland and England . We obliged and
we're glad we did. Thanks to Rick we had a nice adventure
and saw a bit more of Scotland and a tiny bit of England.
We took a train from Edinburgh's Waverly station to Berwick upon Tweed.
Then a bus from Berwick to Coldstream and finally a taxi
(we called ahead) from Coldstream to Branxton.
We spent two hours at the battlefield of Flodden and then the taxi picked
us back up and took us back to Coldstream. We had a pint at a nice pub and
wandered til it was time to take the bus back to Berwick and the train
back to Edinburgh. Nice day-thanks Rick!
