The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

Sunny days lead to great shadows!

Merry Christmas shoppping everyone!
Today we'll go to our local Craft Fair
 and I hope to do all my shopping there-
 Here's to shopping local and supporting local businesses
instead of corporations that import from China.
That's been my mantra now for about 10 years.

Winter is coming.....time for soup!
Nothing is better than a bowl of warm hearty soup
to take winter's icy chill out of your bones and
put a smile on your face! Here's a delicious recipe for
Curried Butternut Squash Soup
(many thanks to the Silver Palate Cookbook)
Serves 4-6
4 tbl sweet butter    2 cups finely chopped onion
4-5 tsp curry powder   2 medium size butternut squash(3# appx)
2 apples peeled cored and diced   3 cups chicken or veggie stock
1 cup apple juice   salt and pepper to taste
1 shredded unpeeled but cored Granny Smith apple for garnish
~~~
1. melt butter add onions,curry powder and cook covered over low heat
until onions are tender about 20-25 minutes.
2. Meanwhile peel squash using veg peeler, scrape out seeds and chop squash.
3. Once onions are tender, pour in stock, add squash and apples and bring  to a
boil. Reduce heat and simmer partially covered until squash and apples are very
tender - appx 20-25 minutes.
4. Using an immersion blender blend soup until smooth. Or strain solids and
 process with food mill or food processor until smooth adding 1 cup of stock .
Return blended and processed mixture to pot with remaining stock..
5. After processing add apple juice to blended soup in pot and  season
to taste with salt and pepper. Simmer briefly and serve immediately with
shredded apple as garnish .
 YUM. ENJOY.
Now it's time to make dirt....
Russell built the raised beds out of recycled old decking
and I've got the task of layering straw,alfalfa hay,dirt
and manure with blood meal and bone meal.
Finishing it all off with a topping of
good compost and planting cereal rye seeds for a winter cover.
Hopefully by planting next year I'll have better dirt than this year.
Whew.
Is it time to rake leaves?
We have countless Black Oak trees on our 10 acres-
needless to say we only rake leaves up and away from the house.
We vacationed-now back to work!
Since returning from our week long time off in
the Bay Area Russell has transformed our old vegetable
garden into a nicely designed raised-bed garden.
He recycled a lot of the old deck lumber
and this will be so much easier to maintain.
Now I need to find a source for good growing soil!
Russell also finished the deck off what will be our
master bedroom. Now the exterior building is complete!
In the spring we can begin to landscape with indigenous
perennials and shrubs.
Hi ho the derry-o the chair stands alone....
Does anyone know what this is?
I think it's either a type of succulent or Euphorbia....
Sun shining on the hummingbird feeder
We still have snow on the ground, but lots more sunshine
than where we used to live in Oregon.
It's uplifting to live here.
