The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

It snowed and blowed all afternoon and last night
It's still too dark to take a photo this morning, but while the
internet is functioning-I'll post this blog and read
my emails. Later on I will replace this older photo
with a new one.
And here's the photo from a few minutes ago.
We really do have several steps down from our front porch-but
you wouldn't know that today!

Whew-there'll be some serious snowblowing today!

Local wildlife- yearling Blacktail deer

We are meeting more than our two-legged neighbors;
lots to see when you stop and listen-which we do a lot of.

We are slowly getting unpacked-yay!

After 22 years in one 2700 sq foot home we moved
350 miles south to a 1500 sq foot home. YIKES.
We downsized before leaving-similar to travelers
on the Old Oregon Wagon Trail- we tossed things
to friends, neighbors and charities.
Much to our chagrin we still had too much and we
have been taking things to charities and consignment
shops here in the Mt Shasta and Weed area.
We are making good prgress in making this lovely
place our new home. I'll just be glad to see the
last cardboard box go to recycling!

Our Chainsaw Bear's New Home
He sits quite happily on our deck facing south.
He can look to his left and see Mt Shasta
(reflected in the window)
or he can look to the right and see Mt Eddy.
He's a happy bear.

Mt Eddy

Lucy is completely blissed out in the sunshine.
Our new home has windows all round with window sills
and Lucy takes advantage of every one.
She is one happy cat and so are we.

Lucy has definitely settled in!
The house has lots of windows and they all have window sills
so she is quite content! You can see the top of Mt Eddy
at the upper right hand corner of the photo.
Stupendous landscape.

And in my left hand is...........
a small yellow rock from our friends croft Loch na Mhoid
outside Inverness Scotland
the piece of granite is from a cemetery in Guanajuato Mexico
and the long reddish brown stone is from Flodden Field* in Great Britain
where one of Russell's ancestors died in a battle during 1513.
I am always picking up interesting stones or other found objects and carrying
them in my pockets like they were talismans or totems.
To see what's in my left hand go here:

*The Battle of Flodden or Flodden Field or occasionally Battle of Branxton was fought in the county of Northumberland in northern England on 9 September 1513, between an invading Scots army under King James IV and an English army commanded by the Earl of Surrey. It ended in victory for the English army, and was the largest battle (in terms of numbers) fought between the two nations.[5] James IV was himself killed in the battle, becoming the last British monarch to suffer such a fate.

and only leave me boxes to jump on, I will
continue to sit on your newspaper!"**
