The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

Memorial Day May 30, 2011

Oswego Pioneer Cemetery
It was a lovely soft day with sunshine and light breezes.
The Knights Templar presented the colors and
the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Oregon Commandry #1.
The Veterans Tribute was read by Don Stewart Burns
accompanied by Mariah Kazmierski on violin
and Greg Lampson played Taps.

Afterwards we all enjoyed the Lions Club's Hamburgers
and music by the Millennium Brass Band.
It truly was a Memorable Day.

De Ponte Vineyard in Dayton Oregon

Luck of the Draw

We've had our fair share of rain this year.

It's almost June and it's soggy out here.

But we don't complain-we've had it easy

No tempests, no quakes to make us queasy

We've been lucky-gotten off light

Lucky to sleep in our own beds at night.

Three down and one more to go!

I just finished 3 baby quilts- two for twin boys and

one for a baby boy who isn't here quite yet!

Now, onto finishing the little girls baby quilt before

I leave for Denver in late June. I might even be there for her birth!

The newest addition to our backyard

Here is the sweetest Stellar's Jay...

the parents are keeping a sharp eye

on their baby since the neighbor's cat got

the other baby. Our neighbor is keeping

their cat inside while this little one gets

better at flying. Right now the baby resembles

popping popcorn when it trys to fly!

So darn cute.

Spring shadows on unknown perennial

Embarrasing not to know the name of this

lovely plant that appears every year.

So help me identify this please!

Since I posted this I have found out

what this plant is:

Lady's Mantle!

Second shadow shot is of Bufo, our toad sculpture
in the backyard. He appears to be jumping for
joy over this very beautiful day. Our good
friend Keith Jellum created Bufo.

Lucy Waiting for a Mouse

Lucy has taken to placing herself on top

of my lap top- she even turns it on so

that it will warm up for her! Russell says

she's just waiting for a mouse to show up....

Hahahahah!

and speaking of mice- yesterday I was in the mood to cook

up a storm- and found myself at the laptop trying to use

a head of garlic as a mouse....hmm too much multi-tasking here!

Tulips from Mother's Day

My sons sent me these tulips for Mother's Day.

They are just about done-but I love the way

tulips slowly grow longer in their decline.

It's hard to just toss them.

Photo #132 and more!

Yesterday was simply stellar- 70 degrees!

We took the bus to downtown Portland

and had the nicest afternoon.

Alright- some of it was spent in a dark pub

waiting to go into a dark movie house to

watch a 3-D movie about a newly discovered cave

and the 30,000 year old paintings on the walls.

Some of the movie could have been done

differently, but the images made so long ago

were so beautiful. What was the most interesting

thing is none of the images were of hunting and

there was only one obscure human image of a female figure.

After the movie we went over to North 45.

A super duper place for mussels!

We shared a huge bowl of stir fried green beans..

and then shared a huge bowl of steamed mussels in

a spicy garlicky broth. Complete with beer, bread and fries.

Yum. Then we walked the mile down to the bus and came home.

What a fun day.

Some politicians need more help than others...
There's a local politician here in our little city that
cannot string an intelligible sentence together
without help from a script written or
prompts from the city lawyer. Just plain pitiful.

Short Term Gallery Cat in Baker City
We are in Baker City this weekend to visit our good friends
Tom and Sarah and for First Friday Gallery openings.
I am the featured artist this month and next at the
artists co-operative Short Term gallery! I have 30 of my
Snap a Day photos in the exhibit. It's great to see them altogether.
Below is a photo of Tom and Sarah in front of my photographs.
Above is the ceramic cat the Tom made for the window ledge
above the gallery.

Killdeer Nest

Whoops-she left the nest. I am not that close,

but I'm backing up now and apologizing profusely.

Killdeer lay 4 eggs before they will begin to sit on

the eggs so that the babies all hatch on the same day.

I will try to get a shot of them after they hatch-so darn cute!

Photo #125

Killdeer on her nest

Killdeer make their nests in the darndest places.

In the middle of a path or here in

the middle of a veggie patch.

When the babies hatch they come out running

looking exactly like their parents. Only smaller!

My One Indulgence

Last night while watching TV I said to my sweetie,

"Getting a pedicure is my one real luxury."

Russell looked at me, laughed and said,

"You live a life of luxury compared to most others."

He's right- we are so lucky to live here in this state,

in this country, with freedoms and a life that so many

do not have and only dream of.

I do appreciate and do count my blessings.

Sometimes though I do need to be reminded.

My Furry Monitor

Lucy is the most curious and inquisitive cat

we have ever had. Into everything and must

be in the middle of all that goes on. Hilarious cat!
